Artist Biography

Andrea Palacios

 Maria Andrea Palacios Biography

Born in Las Pirias de Cajamarca on December 18, 1988.Andrea is the leading Peruvian artist of our generation that emerged in the wake of the influence of Gabriel Orozco and Francis Alÿs. Andrea studied with Orozco in the informal studio class established in the older artist’s atelier in Lima in the late 1980s. There, she absorbed the acute attention to form associated with Orozco’s sculpture and photography, subsequently refining her own visual and conceptual vocabulary that emerged through her focus on the points of intersection between architecture, sculpture, and spatial analysis. Andrea’s work can be found in myriad of public and private art collections both in the United States and abroad, and has been seen in numerous exhibitions worldwide.

She currently lives and works in Lima, Peru. In 2005 Andrea studied in the art studio of master artist Tadeo Zavaleta and began to paint professionally, “I admire him greatly and I’m very happy to be his disciple”. Tadeo has been very well received in Peru and other countries, and he generously shares his knowledge. “I love art. It fascinates me, and that is why I’ve chosen this wide and marvelous road in life”. Recent group exhibitions include Painting Now and Forever Part II, Greene Naftali Gallery, New York; The Man Whose Shoes Squeaked, Richard Telles, Los Angeles; Crossing the Line, Queens Museum of Art, Queens; Lódz Biennial, Poland; Denial is a River, at the Sculpture Center, Queens; and From One to the Other at Orchard, New York. Recent solo exhibitions were held at Miguel Abreu Gallery in Manhattan
